Polydoor were recently contacted to demonstrate how the Polydoor range of impact doors could be utilised to control unwanted vermin and insects. This request was made by one of the UK’s leading wholesalers as they had noticed their current impact doors do not sufficiently conceal their openings. As a result of this they are noticing increasing numbers of unwanted pests and critters wandering beyond the partitioned storage areas and into public areas.
Upon investigating the problem it was evident that despite the management at the store taking all necessary precautions, the fault clearly lied with the poor quality and poor design of their current range of impact and traffic doors.
On closer inspection we identified that the current impact doors were actually drifting open from the light drafts created from within the store. Drafts such as this are very common when combining the air pressure created from larger type stores with smaller partitioned areas. The fundamental design floors and poor quality components used in many types of impact doors make unwanted operation a common problem and even worse among larger warehouses and logistic operations.
As we inspected the doors further we found several problems that were contributing to the problems reported. These included a poor quality hinge system with unstable tension at various points of opening, an excessive gap around the perimeter of each door, the lack of seals on each door and a poor standard of installation.
These signs are very common and more obvious as a result of companies purchasing doors from abroad. This is because many companies produce only standard size doors and modify these sizes to suit a range of opening sizes. As a result of this, it is common to find large gaps or important features missing from each door. On this occasion the client did not receive the correct advice from their supplier and as such have a large number of doors all in need of replacement.
The client asked us to provide a trial door to demonstrate the difference between the Polydoor and other types of impact doors. Due to our UK manufacturing facility we arranged to manufacture and install the trial door within just 7 days.
The trial was originally scheduled to last 3 months but after 4 weeks the store manager contacted Polydoor to say that the door had proved a big success and that the probems around the door had improved considerably. The store decided to replace all existing impact doors with immediate effect and have recommended that their head office consider specifying these doors on all future projects.
Whilst many clients do their best to ensure they are sourcing the very best product it can be difficult to ask the right questions when sourcing your doors. Polydoor are experts within this industry and guide all clients through a detailed process to ensure each doo r is designed to perform to the very highest standard.
